Lab Manager

Sophie Krahnke

Sophie Krahnke

Lab Manager and Keeper Straight of Everything

Sophie is the lab manager and spends much of her time making sure the lab runs like a well-oiled machine! Research-wise, she is interested in the class I MHC molecule HLA-F and its role in the immune system, particularly in the context of viral infections and cancer.

——————-

Outside of the lab, you can find Sophie running, baking, singing, and bingeing true crime podcasts.

Postdocs/Research Associates

Caitlin Castro

Caitlin Castro

Research Associate

pronouns: she/her
Caitlin is examining the role of CD1d-reactive gamma delta (γδ) T cells in human diseases. She is specifically interested in the prevalence, in vivo significance, and functional characteristics of these cells in colorectal tumors. She is also studying the structure and function of γδ T cell receptors in sharks.
——————-
In her free time Caitlin enjoys reading, playing banjo, and going on long (but not too fast) bike rides.
Charlotte James

Charlotte James

Postdoc

Charlotte is interested in the molecular mechanisms that govern T cell recognition of MHC Class I-like molecules and elucidating the functional role of nonclassical T cells in human disease processes.
——————-
Outside of the lab, she enjoys gardening, swimming, and learning new crafts.

Kristof Nolan

Kristof Nolan

Postdoc

Kristof is working on understanding how unique NK cell receptors function to recognize unique ligands and MHC-related molecules during homeostasis and in various disease-state pathologies such as cancer. He is working to understand these interactions through biochemical, structural, and cellular-based approaches.
——————-
When Kristof is not in lab, he enjoys practicing Brazilian jiujitsu, playing piano, and spending time with his wife and dog.

Sobhan Roy

Sobhan Roy

Research Associate

Sobhan’s research is focused on classical and non-classical major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and their recognition by αβ and γδ T cells.  He is using immunological, crystallographic, and biochemical techniques to understand the molecular basis of antigen presentation and its recognition by T cell receptors in the context of pathogenic infection and cancer.
——————-
Besides lab, Sobhan likes to play and watch cricket in his free time, listen to music, read books, watch movies, and try new recipes.

Between experiments, Amrita prefers to always be outside backpacking, picnicking by the lake, or attending music festivals.
Philipp Ross

Philipp Ross

Grad Student (GGSB)

pronouns: he/him
Philipp works on the molecular mechanisms of self versus non-self recognition at the maternal-fetal interface in humans and non-human primates. Prior to joining the Adams Lab, he worked as a bioinformatician in the Llinás Lab on transcriptional regulation in Plasmodium falciparum.

——————-

Outside of the lab, he enjoys listening to and playing a variety of music and staying fit, mostly through running.
Sean Ryan

Sean Ryan

Grad Student (COI)

Sean spends his time in lab exploring the importance of the MR1-T cell axis and its relevance to certain cancers.

——————-

Outside of lab you can find him rock climbing, exploring restaurants in Chicago, or at home reading a science fiction novel.
Mayuri Viswanathan

Mayuri Viswanathan

MSTP Grad Student (COI)

Mayuri studies the role of γδ T cells in multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. She is particularly interested in characterizing the role of antigen specific brain resident gamma deltas using microscopy and sequencing techniques.
